Dung Beetle's Cave
ºuÁTÂΤ§¬}
Common Name: Dung Beetle
Scientific Name: Scarabaeidae
Deltochilum gibbosum (F.)
Also called Dung Chafer, or Tumblebug...These
insects get their name from cleaning up the dung from mammals. They
form manure into a large ball, sometimes even reaching the size of a large
apple, with its scooper-like head and paddle-shaped antennae. Why
do they do that? Because both the adult and the larvae eat the crap
that they've collected, that's why!!! (±q¨Ó³£¤£ª¾¹D«K«K³o»òÀç¾i
^_^) And in order to attract a mate,
the male rolls up dung into a ball then the female picks the male that
has the largest dung ball. Not too complicated huh?

So now you've learned some stuff about dung
beetles, you must be wondering why and what the heck do these bugs have
to do with my homepage, right? The fact is, I don't even know why
I'm interested in these bugs...the name just sounded so cool (µL²á§a??).
